Stephen Alexander Dorochovich was born on June 16,1950, in Brooklyn, New York, to Alexander and Olga (Sawchuk) Dorochovich. A man of deep faith and compassion, Stephen was a devoted lifelong member of the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of the Holy Virgin Protection in lower Manhattan. From a young age, he served his church faithfully—first as an altar boy, and later as a sub-deacon, appointed by the esteemed Metropolitan Ireney.
Stephen had a boundless love for nature and animals. In his Brooklyn neighborhood, he was known for his tender care of injured wildlife—particularly young birds that had fallen from their nests. By one count, he nursed and released fifty-eight native birds, a testament to his quiet dedication and gentle heart.
His passion for the culinary arts led him to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, where he earned an associate's degree. Over the years, Stephen honed his craft in a range of distinguished settings, including the United Nations Plaza Hotel and executive kitchens on Wall Street. The pinnacle of his culinary career was a decade spent at the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he prepared meals for generations of cadets—many of whom would go on to serve the country with honor. A proud season ticket holder and enthusiastic supporter of Army football, Stephen rarely missed the chance to cheer on his beloved Black Knights.
In 1986, Stephen found his sanctuary in Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania, first as a weekend retreat and later as a full-time home. Surrounded by nature, it was the perfect setting for the peaceful life he cherished.
Steve treasured his family, neighbors, and many friends across Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Vermont, and beyond—finding joy in cooking for them and traveling to stay connected with those he loved.
Stephen fell asleep in the Lord on April 4, 2025, after suffering strokes the previous summer. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind, generous, and deeply spiritual man whose life was marked by service—to his church, his community ,and his country. Memory Eternal.
