Dr. Irene Rogutsky, a resident of Douglaston, NY, led a remarkable and inspiring life. Born to Ukrainian parents under a train trestle during WWII, Irene spent her early years in a German internment camp for displaced people. Her family's eventual emigration to Argentina marked the beginning of a journey characterized by resilience and achievement. In Argentina, Irene graduated from the Conservatorio Musical Rossini De Paula where she studied piano, showcasing her early talent and dedication.
The family later moved to New York City, settling on 14th Street in the Ukrainian Village. Irene attended Hunter College and then broke new ground by becoming one of the few women to attend NYU Dental School at the time, paving the way for future generations of women in dentistry.
Irene's work was her life's passion, and she remained dedicated to her profession almost until the end of her life. She was fierce, devoted, hardworking, and unwavering in her commitment to her patients and her practice. Over the years, she touched the lives of countless patients through her dental practices in Queens and Manhattan.
Beyond her professional achievements, Irene was a wonderful artist who painted many beautiful oil paintings. Her creativity and artistic talent brought joy to many and added another dimension to her already rich and full life.
Irene was also active in the Ukrainian scouting organization Plast, as a member of the Chornomortsi Hvulki. Her commitment to her cultural heritage and community was evident throughout her life.
Irene is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Alex Rogutsky, her daughter, Dr. Chris Rogutsky, her grandchild, Stormy Bleecker, her brother Dr. George Demidowich, sister-in-law Christine Demidowich, nephew Dr. Andrew Demidowich and niece Dr. Lisa Demidowich Arrowood. Her impact on her family, friends, and community will be remembered and cherished.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to a charity of your choice.
